A centopeia-gigante-amazônica (Scolopendra gigantea) é um artrópode grande, temível e predatório, nativo das florestas da América do Sul e do Caribe. É capaz de capturar, inocular peçonha e matar muitos animais, pois aprendeu técnicas específicas para caçar cada presa. A centopeia pode atingir 30 cm de comprimento e ocorrer em uma variedade de cores – geralmente vermelho, amarelo, marrom ou preto –, com pernas amarelas e faixas escuras entre os segmentos do corpo.
