O panda-gigante (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) é uma espécie de urso nativa das montanhas da China Central. Tem pelos pretos e brancos em um padrão característico, com círculos pretos ao redor dos olhos, além de com patas e orelhas dessa cor. Os pandas se alimentam quase exclusivamente de bambu e, por isso, são extremamente dependentes de florestas onde bambuzais são abundantes para sobreviver. Por ser uma alimentação energeticamente deficiente, eles precisam consumir grandes quantidades dela e passam a maior parte do dia procurando alimento e comendo. Devido à baixa ingestão de energia, os filhotes gerados são pequenos e vulneráveis.
