O gnu-de-cauda-branca (Connochaetes gnou) é um ungulado de grande porte, nativo do sul da África. O nome "gnu" vem do ruído distinto que ele emite quando está assustado. A espécie é conhecida por sua pelagem marrom-escura e chifres curvados. Os machos se distinguem das fêmeas pela coloração mais escura e porte maior. Ambos os sexos têm jubas espessas e hirsutas, além de um rabo longo, semelhante ao dos cavalos, que mede de 1,7 a 2,2 m de comprimento. A espécie pode atingir de 1,06 a 1,21 m na altura de cernelha e pesar de 120 a 193 kg.
