다른 여우원숭이 종과 마찬가지로 알락꼬리여우원숭이(Lemur catta)는 마다가스카르에 자생하며, 그 외에는 세계 어느 곳에서도 자연적으로 발견되지 않습니다. 알락꼬리여우원숭이는 뾰족한 주둥이와 고양이 같은 귀, 12개나 13개의 흰 고리와 13개나 14개의 검은 고리, 끝 부분이 검은 색인 긴 꼬리를 지녔습니다. 그들은 보통 크기가 39에서 46cm 사이이고, 꼬리는 56에서 63cm 사이이며, 함께 돌아다니며 먹이를 찾는 무리를 이루어 생활합니다. 알락꼬리여우원숭이는 잡식성으로 과일, 나뭇잎, 곤충 등 구할 수 있는 음식이라면 거의 다 먹습니다.
