퍼프애더(Bitis arietans)는 사하라 이남 아프리카와 중동의 남부에 널리 퍼져 있는 독사 종입니다. 땅딸막한 몸과 넓은 머리, 윤기 없는 비늘을 가졌습니다. 이들은 베이지색, 갈색, 검은색이며, 그물무늬 패턴이 있어 서식지인 사바나와 초원에서 완벽한 위장을 할 수 있습니다. 느린 속도로 움직이는 뱀이지만, 건드릴 경우 빠른 속도로 움직이기도 합니다. 평균 길이는 1m이지만 일부 개체는 2m까지 자라기도 합니다. 수컷은 암컷보다 크며, 더 넓은 둘레와 긴 꼬리를 가집니다.
