골리앗버드이터(Theraphosa blondi)는 수리남, 가이아나, 프랑스령 기아나, 브라질, 베네수엘라의 열대 우림과 늪지대, 습지에서 자생하는 거대한 타란툴라 종입니다. 황갈색을 띤 갈색이며 적갈색 털로 덮여 있습니다. 거대한 복부와 거대하고 둥근 흉부를 가졌으며, 두꺼운 다리와 기다란 더듬이다리(입 부분)가 있습니다. 암컷은 수컷보다 크며, 암수 모두 복부의 끝부분에는 거미줄 배출을 도와주는 '방적돌기'라는 뚜렷한 부속 기관이 있습니다. 골리앗버드이터는 거미줄로 알주머니를 만들거나 정자를 옮기지만, 사냥을 위해 거미줄을 치진 않습니다.
