흔한 혹멧돼지(Phacochoerus africanus)는 사하라 이남 아프리카 전역의 다양한 환경에서 서식합니다. 이 종은 현재 멸종 위기에 처하지 않았지만, 가뭄에 취약하고 사람들에게 유해 동물로 간주되어 많이 사냥당합니다. 유해 동물로 간주되는 이유는 두 가지인데, 첫 번째는 그들이 가축에 질병을 옮길 수 있기 때문입니다. 두 번째는 그들이 엄니로 땅을 팔 때 농지의 농작물에 해를 끼칠 수 있기 때문입니다. 이로 인해 일부 지역에서는 혹멧돼지가 완전히 사라졌습니다.
