오랑우탄(Pongo pygmaeus)은 보르네오 섬에 자생하며 보르네아 섬의 인도네시아와 말레이시아 영토에도 서식합니다. 그들은 붉은 털과 갈색 피부를 지닌 큰 유인원이며, 성숙한 수컷은 구애하기 위해 큰 소리를 낼 때 사용하는 독특하고 큰 볼 패드와 목 주머니를 가지고 있습니다. 오랑우탄은 굉장히 똑똑하여 야생에서 도구를 만들고 사용해서 먹이를 얻는 모습도 확인되었습니다. 하지만 수영은 못하며, 이 때문에 깊은 강이 있으면 야생에서 서식지가 제한되곤 합니다.
