붉은여우(Vulpes vulpes)는 유럽, 아시아, 북아메리카 전역 및 북아프리카 일부 지역에 서식하는 중형 갯과 동물입니다. 붉은여우는 갈색 또는 검은색이 어우러진 두터운 빨간색 털을 지니고 있으며, 배 부분은 흰색을 띠고 있습니다. 꼬리는 길고 덥수룩하며, 특유의 검은색 다리가 특징입니다. 수컷의 몸길이는 96~115cm에 달하는데, 그중 32~38cm는 꼬리가 차지하고 있으며, 어깨 높이는 35~50cm이고 몸무게는 4.3~7.6kg입니다. 암컷은 몸길이가 91~110cm이며, 그중 꼬리 길이는 30~36cm로 수컷에 비해 덩치가 작고 가볍습니다. 또한 어깨 높이는 33~47cm이며 몸무게는 3.4~6.1kg입니다.
