아메리카너구리(Procyon lotor)는 북아메리카 토착종으로, 북미 대륙 전역에서 서식하는 중간 크기의 포유류입니다. 회갈색의 털과 검은 고리 무늬의 긴 꼬리, 뾰족한 코를 갖추고 있으며, 눈 주변에는 흔히 '가면'이라고 묘사되는 무늬가 그려져 있습니다. 또한, 앞발을 마치 손처럼 사용합니다. 아메리카너구리의 몸길이는 41~70cm이고, 꼬리 길이는 19~40cm입니다. 일반적으로 수컷이 암컷보다 덩치가 큰데, 수컷의 몸무게는 2.5~10.4kg이고 암컷의 몸무게는 1.8~7.5kg입니다. 또한 기후와 연중 시기에 따라, 그리고 아종별로 크기와 몸무게가 천차만별입니다.
