유럽오소리(Meles meles)는 유럽 전역의 삼림과 관목숲, 인공 공원이나 목초지에도 서식하는 대형 족제빗과 종입니다. 유럽오소리의 가장 눈에 띄는 특징은 얼굴 무늬로, 하얀 얼굴 위에 서로 동떨어진 검은 줄무늬 두 개가 목부터 귀, 눈을 거쳐 주둥이까지 뻗어 있습니다. 몸 부분은 두꺼운 회색 털로 덮여 있고 다리는 검은색을 띠며, 옆구리 털은 좀 더 밝은 편입니다. 유럽오소리는 어깨높이가 25cm~30cm, 머리부터 몸통까지의 길이는 60cm~90cm이며, 12cm~24cm의 짧은 꼬리도 가지고 있습니다. 암수의 크기는 비슷하지만 수컷의 무게가9.1kg~16.7kg 정도 되며, 보통 더 무거운 편이고 암컷의 몸무게는 6.6kg~13.9kg입니다.
