북아메리카비버는 미국과 캐나다의 온대 삼림 지대와 강변 지역에 서식하는 대형 설치류입니다. 북아메리카비버의 바깥쪽 털은 길고 거칠며, 안쪽 털은 더 짧고 부드럽습니다. 북아메리카비버는 외부에 노출된 털 때문에 털이 거칠게 보입니다. 북아메리카비버는 갈색, 적색 또는 황갈색을 띠며, 눈과 귀는 작고 주둥이 위쪽에 위치한 검은 코와 앞니는 매우 크고 뚜렷합니다. 북아메리카비버는 머리부터 몸통까지의 길이가 74~90cm이며, 꼬리 길이는 20~35cm이고, 몸무게는 11~32kg입니다.
