남부흰코뿔소는 남아프리카(남아프리카, 나미비아, 짐바브웨, 케냐, 우간다, 잠비아)에 서식하는 대형 유제류의 일종입니다. 두껍고 회색빛을 띠는 피부를 가진 거대한 동물입니다. 남부흰코불소는 뿔이 두 개이며, 앞쪽에 위치한 뿔은 뒤에 위치한 뿔보다 훨씬 더 깁니다. 머리는 각진 모양의 입과 함께 거의 직사각형을 띱니다. 머리 꼭대기에 도드라진 형태의 귀를 가지고 있으며, 머리를 지탱하기 위해 근육으로 이루어진 목의 아랫부분은 혹처럼 볼록한 형태입니다. 수컷 남부흰코뿔소의 몸길이는 3.7~4m이며, 키는 170~188cm, 평균 몸무게는 2,300kg입니다. 암컷의 몸길이는 3.4~3.65m이며, 키는 160~177cm, 평균 몸무게는 1,700kg입니다.
