북부 다이아몬드거북은 미합중국 동부 및 남부의 기수역과 해안 늪에 서식하는 소형 거북이 종입니다. 밝은 동심원과 짙은 고리를 품은 '다이아몬드' 무늬가 서로 교차하는 형상의 독특한 등껍질을 지니고 있습니다. 등껍질의 무늬와 색채는 종에 따라 다양한 특성을 자랑하며, 수컷의 평균적인 등껍질 길이는 13cm, 암컷의 평균적인 등껍질 길이는 17cm입니다.
