アフリカヒョウ (Panthera pardus pardus) は中央アフリカと南部アフリカに生息するヒョウの亜種である。スリムな体形に優雅な頭部が特徴である。黄色から暗い金色が基調の毛皮で、小さなロゼット模様が狭い間隔で並んでおり、下半身、顔、尾の先にかけて黒い斑点に変化する。腹部と脚の内側は白い。性的二形であり、オスはメスより体が大きく体重もある。オスは肩高 60 cm ～ 70 cm、体長 1.52 m ～ 1.83 m、尾の長さ 66 cm、体重 58 kg ～ 96 kgである。メスは肩高 55 cm ～ 65 cm、体長 1.39 m ～ 1.67 m、尾の長さ 60 cm、体重 24 kg ～ 37.5 kgである。

African leopards are quite arboreal, using trees to cache their kills in order to protect them from other, stronger predators like lions, hyenas or wild dogs.
