オジロヌー (Connochaetes gnou) は、南アフリカ原産の有蹄類で、「ヌー」という名前は警戒したときに上げる独特の音が由来となっている。茶色や黒の毛皮と L 字型の角が特徴で、オスはメスよりも色が濃く身体が大きい。オスもメスも分厚いふさふさのたてがみと馬のような長い尻尾があり、体長 1.7～2.2 m、肩高1.06～1.21 m、体重 120～193 kg。<br><br>オジロヌーは現在絶滅危惧種ではないが、1800 年代後半、肉と革を求める人々やスポーツハンティングを楽しむ人々によって絶滅寸前まで乱獲された。放牧された家畜と同じ場所で餌を食べていたため、家畜に疫病を感染させる害獣とも考えられていた。飼育の再導入によって、オジロヌーの個体数は増加し生息範囲も広がっているため、今は絶滅の心配はない。
