La escolopendra gigante (Scolopendra gigantea) es un enorme e imponente depredador artrópodo originario de los bosques de Sudamérica y el Caribe. Es capaz de atrapar, envenenar y matar gran variedad de animales, y ha desarrollado técnicas específicas para cazar a determinadas presas. Este enorme ciempiés puede alcanzar los 30 cm de longitud, se da en distintos colores (rojo, amarillo, marrón o negro), tiene patas amarillas y franjas oscuras entre los segmentos del cuerpo.
